Public Health Course?

There exist several hundred colleges in the US that provide masters in public health programs. Most of the Masters in Public Health programs focus on healthcare and lessons in it for the community. When looking through a selection of colleges offering the degree, make sure that the one you choose has been accredited by the CEPH.

What is CEPH? How can it benefit you to select exclusively form universities with accreditation? The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) is a national accreditation-giving body for both public health programs and schools of public health.

Public health graduate students must be careful in seeking out a course and be certain that accreditation has been granted to the one they are eyeing. Many of the colleges in this field get accreditation for their courses in lump. For graduate public health programs, the masters in public health degree is always accredited, but contact the program or school to know if MS, PhD or other degrees in public health are covered by the program’s accreditation.

It is crucial to understand the difference between regional and CEPH accreditation. Regional accrediting bodies accredit courses for generalized topics; the CEPH, for courses with specific concentrations. If the college is regionally accredited, it means specifically that it (as a college) meets the standards on the whole set by the accrediting body.

In contrast, the CEPH accreditation is meant to evaluate how well a course can “drill” the needed knowledge for this field into a student. Every major subject of study, from nursing to business, has a premier accrediting body to which students may refer in the search for the best schools. For public health, it is the CEPH that handles accreditation with approval of the USDE.

CEPH performs accreditation on two separate groups, public health programs and schools of public health, and there’s an individual set of standards for each. The clear difference between the two is that the institutions offers a number of programs while a program is, well, the one program to be considered in the matter. The academies of this type have to let students choose from any of the major areas of specialization as well.

For public health programs, they are only required to offer one MPH degree. However, many programs offer multiple concentrations though they are not required to. It must be noted that another difference is in the fact that the institutions are asked to have options for those who wish to get a doctorate in the field.

A CEPH program or university will give you the lessons and training you sorely need to prosper in your field. If you are in public health, you can choose to specialize in any of the following: Behavioral Sciences, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Services Administration, and Biostatics. You can also go on to get a PhD for the field if you wish, should you enter a college with it.

It is possible to ask your institution to assist in getting your credits transferred, among other things. Generally, schools with accreditation are quick to accept transferred credits and deal summarily with other such exchanges. Following graduation, you might be interested in taking the Public Health Certification exam.

Some of the best jobs in the field are also given only to those who have masters in public health diplomas from accredited programs or colleges. Keep in mind that this also qualifies you for many fellowships sponsored by the government. The colleges with accreditation also tend to offer the best support systems for degree-takers.

The types of programs the CEPH Council on Education for Public Health accredits are indicated in its full name.
